Hellz Bellz “The Rest is Her Story.”

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

If you’re not avid readers of whatthehellz like I am, then something is clearly wrong. Now if the problem lies with me or you is a whole other story. However, I won’t get into that. Besides, it’s okay; I’ll  gladly tell you about what’s going on with the ladies of Hellz Bellz myself. They just recently (as in yesterday) released new information about their 2010 Fall collection along with photos of the clothing, which in my opinion, is a real step up for the brand. Don’t get me wrong, I loved all of their old stuff, but this new collection really does show the growth of the brand just as the “HBIC of Hellz”, Miss Lawn, said so herself.

“This Fall 2010 marks the growth of Hellz, with a more experimental venture entitled ‘The Rest Is Her Story,’ a collection that conveys a classic story of vengeance while simultaneously exuding sensuality and ferocity. Drawing inspiration from revenge and exploitation films such as ‘Lady Snowblood’ and ‘Thriller,’ the collection makes use of a dark color palette to embody the mood & feel of both films. Black, white, and  texture are prevalent throughout the collection and accentuate the unorthodox but innovative silhouettes with leather, trims and details. Pieces like the ‘Alice,’ a fitted blazer with exaggerated shoulders and back ruffle detail inspired by anti-heroines who display great strength and confidence while maintaining beauty and grace. Another interesting piece from the collection is the ‘Wonderland, ‘ a fine cotton jersey printed tunic with metal hooks and eye trims, that not only demonstrates the boldness and convention of film vixens, but the brand as a whole as well. A subtle color story, intelligent and experimental silhouettes and contrasting metal details culminate in an exhibition of daring feminine sexuality and confidence, truly proving that ‘The Rest Is Her Story.’” (via whatthehellz.com)

The pictures make you want absolutely everything in the collection, right? If not, that’s at least how I’m feeling about it. ;)

Good Sounds. Good Vibes.

Monday, August 30th, 2010

In keeping theme with great artists, not too long ago (about five days now), it was actually the death anniversary of the beautiful Miss Aaliyah Haughton. It’s been about nine years since her tragic death. In my opinion, when she passed it was definitely a loss for the R&B and Hip-Hop world and she left a hole that can never be filled. That’s not to say that her music does not live on because it is clear to see how Aaliyah still has many devoted fans even though she is no longer with us. Now she may not be of the same caliber as Michael Jackson, but she still truly was an inspiring and beautiful artist. It’s clear to see how many female R&B artists nowadays such as Ciara, Keri Hilson, and many others constantly take pointers from her. There’s no surprise there because she was the Princess of R&B of her time. It would just be silly not to follow in the footsteps of one the greatest female artists of time.

Now to start of the week, what better way than with a few words from Aaliyah’s song “Try Again.”

“If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again. You can dust it off and try again.”

Talk about an instant pick-me-up, right?

King of Pop

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Yesterday would have been Michael Jackson’s 52nd birthday.  And, while it’s such a shame to lose someone at such a young age, it still remains important to keep him in your minds and hearts — especially someone so memorable.  Though many didn’t know him personally, he played an important role in the lives of almost anyone who lived during the 80′s, 90′s, and even 21st century, and changed the world as we know it today.  He made his mark in music, fashion, and philanthropy.  And though he did have some controversy in his life, it was still undeniable that he was and will always be the King of Pop.  Instead of posting a classic — since I know everyone already has those on their iTunes playlists — I stumbled upon this mashup that I thought was amazing!

Weekly Round-Up

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Here’s our recap of the week:

-Grown Chinese men embrace the crop top trend.

-A video of an adorable French girl and her dad’s funny antics, need we say more?

-Nobody does it like Karl.

-One of my favorite designers, Rachel Roy, teams up with the beautiful Jessica Stam to create some edgy designs and RR also launches her new lookbook, which features 20 inspiring real women and their life mottos.

-Jersey Shore boys + The Dougie = The funniest shit we’ve seen all week.

-Oh Uggs, you think you fancy huh? But even Jimmy Choo can’t save these shoes from the fashion wreck that they are.

-You know we love when John Legend and The Roots collaborate, so of course we’re feelin’ their new video for the song “Wake Up Everybody.”

Mix It Up

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Although I love to sneak in to my mom’s closet and “borrow” her clothing, we don’t always see eye to eye on style. She thinks that there are just certain rules when it comes to fashion that shouldn’t be broken such as mixing prints, wearing denim with denim, or combining colors like black and brown. But I love breaking the rules. I’m especially feelin’ this print on print trend, what do you guys think?

Check out this shoot my girl Ely styled for:

And of course, we can’t forget about D&G:

Jessica Szohr x Nylon Magazine

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Jessica Szohr will be on the cover of Nylon’s September issue. This month marks their annual TV issue. In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know, Jessica plays the boho-chic character Vanessa on Gossip Girl. I don’t know much about her representing the show or the cast though, since last I heard she was having problems with her off-screen loverboy, Ed Westwick. Don’t you think that would cause a couple problems on set? I mean, I’d think so, but I guess there’s that whole professionalism that’s expected of someone getting paid to do their job, huh? So maybe not.

I’m loving the effortless energy she’s exuding, and she pulls off these bold outfits so well. Afterall she was a model well before acting, so it makes sense. AND I’m loving her tattoos! She makes me want to get mine already. Anyways, check it out because the styling of this shoot definitely looks on point. I’m sure it’d be worth the read.

We Are the World

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Fact: The world is made up of numerous cultures. If this is the case, then why is diversity disregarded in the fashion world?

Take a look at your women’s magazines, advertisements, runways, and lookbooks, and you will notice the dominance of the white heterosexual female image. But I would love to see more editorials which showcase the intersectionality of today’s world like this “We Are The World” one for Vogue US. Racial, sexual, class, and even gender boundaries go out the window in this shoot to create a unified global outlook on fall’s biggest trends.

Miss Universe 2010

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Not too sure if anybody caught the competition, but congratulations to Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarette, who won this year’s title.  She beat the favored Miss USA (who won the title as Miss Arizona, funny?) along with 13 other semi-finalists for the title.  Literally speechless, after being crowned, she said she couldn’t think of anything.  At 22 years old, we don’t blame her!

Good Sounds. Good Vibes.

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Seriously, what’s with the beautiful, warm, summertime weather arriving right when everybody’s headed back to school? This whole summer it’s been like we’ve been living in a freezer, and now it finally feels like summer. That’s not cool, Mother Nature. Talk about teasing us. It’s even been nice enough to wear shorts in San Francisco sans winter coats and scarves. It’s rare that this ever happens, seriously. Can we just have a few more days of this sun, please?!

In honor of the good weather we’ve been having lately, here’s Sublime featuring The Pharcyde in Summertime the Remix. Good sounds, and good vibes to start of the week, always. Maybe this song will help inspire Mama Nature to choose to be a little nice and continue blessing us with this goooood weather. Just a little while longer, please, it’s the least you can do for all the crappy weather we’ve had this summer!

Life Is A Trip, So Sometimes We Gon’ Stumble

Yeezy’s been pretty quiet since the Taylor Swift incident, but of course he couldn’t keep quiet for too long.  His Power video has already started a buzz, not to mention his album set to come out in November, and his Twitter promises.  These Twitter posts were published not too long after he linked us to the official Power remix (in which the Taylor Swift incident is also addressed), lyrics included.

Kanye’s had some questionable moments, but I’m not going to lie, this track is definitely getting me excited for November, as any Kanye or Jay-Z fan should be.  Check it out!   How does it make you feel?
