Vogue Africa Denied by Conde Nast

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Conde Nast, publisher of titles such as Vogue and Vanity Fair, denied Mario Epanya’s proposal to publish an African edition of Vogue. With 18 continental editions of the magazine developed and published  from Russia to India, Africa did not meet the criteria. Why pass on an outstanding possibility to  showcase the real beauty of the African culture? Why not publish the positive side of the continent by expanding the readers mind about arts founded in Africa? Whatever the case may be, Conde Nast has yet to answer why.

Put A Ring On It

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

We have a soft spot for unique accessories. They are the perfect way to add your own personal style to an outfit and instantly set you apart from the rest. From heels to handbags to bling, we love it all! Right now, we’re feelin’ those statement rings. And not just a few gem stones, odd shapes, or dainty delicates. It’s all about piling them up and creating a sort of armor around your fingers. Sounds a little odd but trust us it looks great:

Pack them all on one finger or wear 3-5 per hand. Show us how you put a ring on it and we might just feature it on the blog!

New T.I. “Got Your Back” Video.

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Well isn’t this a nice little video? The concept’s pretty cute. It’s like a little remake of T.I.’s life in music video form. And how about Keri Hilson? That woman can make just about anything look good. Might not be the biggest fans of the song, but we’ve got to admit that it is pretty catchy.

We Are Living in a Material World.

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Not too long ago was it announced that Ms. Go-Against-the-Grain Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes, would be launching their Junior’s clothing line, Material Girl, across Macy’s stores nationwide this upcoming August 3rd. It’s not surprising that the newly established face for the collection will be none other than Ms. Go-Against-the-Grain Jr. Taylor Momsen.

The 16-year-old Taylor Momsen, who’s widely known for role as Jenny Humphrey on the television show Gossip Girl and probably less widely known as the front woman for band The Pretty Reckless, is a very interesting choice for the job if you ask us. For one, her established style nowadays is very similar to the direction of the collection. She’s known for her oversized flannels, thigh-high stockings, sheer tops, and raccoon eyes, so the line is very much reflective of her edgy grunge style. It’s just a little more toned down, and this makes sense considering it’s geared towards 13-25 year olds across the country. Even more so, her new appointment to this line is interesting because of the controversy that may or may not come about from it. She’s not the best role model for the audience this line is aimed towards. She’s a 16-year-old celebrity who is often photographed smoking cigarettes. She’s known for her less than demure language. And time and again, she herself has established that she wants nothing to do with being seen as a role model for younger girls. If you ask us, she’s not doing a very good job. If you don’t want to be a role model, why choose to be the new face of a clothing line geared towards the very same crowd you’re not trying to influence ? Ms. Taylor Momsen, we do believe you’re eating your own words now.

Nonetheless, this line looks promising. If anything, it will be giving Macy’s stores a little bit of zest, since lately it’s been looking a little bland. Here are just a few looks from the up and coming collection.

Futbol? Football!

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

So it’s only been two weeks, but we’re already feeling the withdrawals from the loss of our dear FIFA.  After all, what other excuse do we have to call out of work and spend the afternoon at a bar yelling at a TV with strangers?  Yeah, we know, there’s always America’s pastime, but sometimes, that can be about as interesting as running around in circles — or diamonds.  So what do we have to look forward to while fighting the withdrawals?  The Greatest Game Ever Played:  football.  Yes, that’s right, futbol whol?!

So, hang up your USA gear and get ready for football season.  Start putting together your fantasy football team and take out your favorite teams’ gear so you can represent.  Thanks to the lovely Alyssa Milano (I’ll refrain from any Who’s the Boss jokes), women can now sport their favorite teams’ clothing without sacrificing form-fitting clothes.  She collaborated with the NFL to create Touch in 2008 to cater to the female sports fans that have been shopping in the boys section for jerseys and gear that fit as best as possible.  And, while the regular season doesn’t start for another month, pre-season games start in a little over a week.  That will surely hold us all over until regular season and basketball season.  As for my team of choice?  I’d rather not say, but, check out this nifty picture of Alyssa Milano in gear from the line!

You can find more gear at the NFLshop.  She also started lines with other majors sports like baseball, basketball, and hockey.

NEW Lauryn Hill Track

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

From the NPR interview to her upcoming special guest performance at Rock the Bells, the media has been swarming over the news that Lauryn Hill might be back for good this time and we are VERY excited, to say the least. Over the weekend a new track surfaced from the legendary vocalist. Although it sounds like an old unreleased song, reports have yet to be determined. All we can say is that it’s so great to hear the sound of her voice again and we will definitely be keeping a look out for more.

Click here to listen to the new song Repercussions.
