I’ve taken a bit of a blogging hiatus, but what better way to come back than with a lookbook? In addition to writing for AVA, I’m also the managing editor and creative director for the UC Davis Textiles and Clothing department blog. I’ve wanted to make the transition into an online magazine for a while now so we produced our first fashion lookbook this quarter. I’m really proud of what my team and I accomplished, hope you guys enjoy it!

Damn, look how little Alicia Keys looks in this video, her first video “Fallin.” Now she’s a mommy. I question the kid’s name, but I guess they’re just trying to be different. (His name’s Egypt Daoud Dean.) I swear, celebrities always have to have the most peculiar names for their kids. Whatever, I guess it’s their prerogative, right? Anyways, just thought I’d bring it back to the days when she wore keys as earrings and always had braids in her hair. I just felt like reminiscing the good old days, enjoy.

From the draping of a garment, an interview in a magazine, or simply passing a stranger on the sidewalk, it doesn’t take a lot to inspire me. The radiance of the people and things around me constantly has a huge influence on my life. And I always find it interesting to see how creative minds get inspiration and in turn use this to inspire others. It’s a beautiful never-ending cycle.

So it’s no surprise that I fell in love with this trailer for Influencers. It’s a short documentary, which takes a look at some of the most powerful New Yorkers in the advertising, fashion, entertainment, and design industries. They go behind-the-scenes to show how trends and ideas come to life and ultimately become contagious in our society. Can’t wait for this to come out, we’ll keep you guys posted!

I’d have to think you were an alien if you didn’t know M.I.A. or her song “Paper Planes.” That was my theme song for the longest time. I’m talking ringtones, blasting the song when it came on the radio, and singing along whenever I heard it. What better way to start of the week than with M.I.A., right?

As a matter of fact, you can start off your week (more or less) with M.I.A. again next week. She’s going to be performing over in Oakland next Tuesday night at the Fox Theater. I’ve only been there once, but I love the venue. It may be a bit smaller than others, but it’s cozy and a chill place to just appreciate some music. The last time I was there was for the Erykah Badu concert. That night was all about good music, good vibes and good people. I have a feeling that’s what this concert’s about to be like. Here’s all the information just in case you’re curious.
